Bought four of these. On two of them the weights in the base would not screw completely onto the rods, even with a wrench (which, of course, ruins the finish). Unless these weights are screwed tightly against the base, they leave the stand wobbly and, essentially, useless. Very poor quality control.

I've never had surround sound speaker stands, so I can only speak from this experience. I looked around and most stands were going for $50 for two. The stands weren't anything fancy, but were more than worth the $43 and serve their purpose just fine. I would recommend these stands, they are a tremendous value.
